Good Afternoon,

Here are the weekly updates from the middle school:

Middle School Program of Studies: The program of studies for the middle school is now posted on the web page at this address: http://ms.nburlington.com/ms/counseling/course_description.jsp. For those students entering eighth grade in September, counselors will begin meeting with them to discuss course selections in March. In the meantime, the program of studies is now available for review.

Spirit Week: The week of February 6 is middle school spirit week. It is an opportunity for students to show their dedication to and pride in their school. The week is marked by several events. Each day of the week will have a theme such as sports day or blue and grey day. All students are encouraged to show their school spirit by participating; however we do ask that all students keep our dress code in mind when choosing a specific outfit. The week will culminate with a pep rally at the end of the school day on Friday. While classes and the regular academic activities will continue as normal, the spirit week events will make the week a special time for the students and faculty as they celebrate being members of the middle school community.

Athletic Participation Packets: Spring athletic participation packets will be considered for approval by the school doctor on February 8th at the middle school level and February 15th at the high school level. For students who wish to try out for a spring sport, it is IMPERATIVE that the athletic participation packet is submitted to the respective main office before these deadlines. Athletic participation packets turned in after these deadlines may not be reviewed and approved in time for a student to try out for a spring sport. Failure to adhere to the noted deadlines may jeopardize a student’s opportunity to participate in a spring sport.

Middle School Play: The middle school play is scheduled for this Friday and Saturday night. The middle school students will be performing a version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Show times are 7:30 pm for both evenings and it will be held in the middle school cafetorium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. All members of the community are invited out to see the middle school thespians perform.

PTSC Newsletter: The Parent Teacher Student Connection (PTSC) newsletter is attached to this e-mail. The newsletter lists all the upcoming events for the PTSC.

Have a great weekend!

Northern Varsity Wrestlers Capture Third Consecutive BCSL Liberty Division Title!!

Fans entering Northern's stands Wednesday night knew what was on the line, a league title, but they also knew that Northern had been outmatched just four days earlier at the Jack Welsh duals when Moorestown earned a decisive 38-25 victory. What was the difference? Northern Burlington coach Jule Dolci said. “Guts. Northern’s built on guts." Giving Moorestown their due credit, he continued, "they really took it to us a few days ago, but we took this as a challenge, and we never back down from a challenge.”
Senior John Konopka started to turn the tide of the match when he won a 6-3 decision. Hobbling from a previous day's practice injury, he set the tone that Northern was there to battle for their third straight BCSL Liberty Division title. At 220, L.J. Terry added to the excitement scoring a tech fall and at 106 pounds, Mike Subers continued the tempo in the lightweight bouts with a pin.
With junior Zach Verity, sophomore Court Chase taking back-to-back decisions, and senior Matt Nixon taking a big decision at 152, it was all left on the mat for standout junior Wayne Stinson (24-3) to seal a victory. The night was capped with Stinson's pin, the scoreboard clicked to a Northern win of 35-24, and the fans rejoiced in their team's season efforts.
A special congratulations to the entire team and the endless amount of hours of dedication that have been poured into this season by coaches, parents and fans and those that support the athletics day in and day out. Best of luck in the districts!
